In both cases, overriding someone’s free will is a highly questionable action, especially for a superhero, but heroes like Donna Troy and Wonder Woman use this ability responsibly. In Wonder Woman’s earliest Golden Age appearances, her enchanted lasso could be used to compel its victims to do anything, making it similar to Donna’s Lasso of Persuasion before its enchantment gradually became exclusively that of compelling honesty. The Lasso of Persuasion’s creation hasn’t been explained in the comics yet, but its enchantment makes it a far more ethically-dubious weapon than Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. The silver lasso, which glows blue when in use, doesn’t compel those it entangles to tell the truth, but instead forces them to obey Donna Troy’s commands, as long as their willpower is weaker than hers (which is often the case, given her iron will). In the 44 th issue of Justice League of America volume 2, by James Robinson and Mark Bagley, Donna Troy unveils her new primary weapon: The Lasso of Persuasion. ![]() Related: The True Power of Wonder Woman's Lasso Is Revealed ![]() Despite this, it’s still a defensive and offensive weapon that can also be used for transportation (if used as a grappling tool), but it wasn’t until the tail end of the post-Crisis era of DC that Donna Troy finally received an upgrade to her lasso. Donna Troy’s unnamed first lasso functions identically to Diana’s only it lacks the truth enchantment. Wonder Woman’s iconic Lasso of Truth is crafted by either the Amazons, or Olympians (or both), depending on the continuity, and while its most famous use is compelling beings to tell only the whole truth, it’s also an indestructible multi-purpose artifact.
